India enjoyed a perfect opening day at the BWF World Junior Championships 2026 in Cairo, with all its badminton players progressing to the next round after impressive performances in the Under-19 singles events.
The Indian contingent delivered convincing victories across both men’s and women’s competitions, with several young talents displaying their skills and composure on the international stage.
Tanvi Patri Leads India’s Women’s Singles Charge
Promising youngster Tanvi Patri began her campaign with a straight-game victory over Chinese Taipei’s Hsin Yu Huang in the women’s singles Round of 128.
Despite facing resistance from her opponent, Patri maintained her rhythm to secure a 15-12, 15-11 win.
Patri entered the tournament with strong credentials, having recently captured the Polytron Pontianak International Challenge and Asian U-17 titles within two weeks.
Another rising Indian talent, Shaina Manimuthu, produced one of the day’s most dominant performances, defeating Uganda’s Claire Namirembe 15-3, 15-3.
Shaina, who recently won the Badminton Asia U-15 title and secured bronze at the Dutch Junior International, gave her opponent little opportunity to recover.
Tanvi Reddy Andluri also advanced comfortably, overcoming Canada’s Brindha Bharathi Raja 15-10, 15-5.
Meanwhile, Parul Choudhary registered two victories to continue her campaign. She first defeated Spain’s Iziar Barcala 15-11, 15-5 in the Round of 256 before beating Brazil’s Laura Roviezzo 15-7, 15-7 in the Round of 128.
Indian Men’s Singles Players Maintain Perfect Record
India’s men’s singles representatives matched the women’s success with an equally impressive showing.
Akhil Reddy Bobba faced a competitive challenge from Malaysia’s Wei Jie Tiew but held his nerve to claim a 15-12, 15-12 victory in the Round of 128.
Nishchal also registered two wins during the day. He opened with a commanding 15-4, 15-6 triumph over Saudi Arabia’s Rayan Almukhimer in the Round of 256.
He then defeated Portugal’s Cesar Rodrigues 15-7, 15-12 to secure his place in the next round.
Jagsher Singh Khangurra produced another dominant performance, brushing aside Algeria’s Mohamed Rayane Bouffeniche 15-5, 15-6.
Dev Ruparelia completed India’s successful outing with a convincing 15-5, 15-4 victory over another Algerian opponent, Oussama Keddou.
With every Indian player advancing, the contingent has made an encouraging start to the prestigious junior tournament. The challenge will now be to maintain that momentum as the competition progresses and tougher opponents await in the upcoming rounds.
