Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu has pulled out of the World Championship due to injury concerns. The double Olympic medallist won the Gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Women’s Singles but she had her fair share of injury problems through the entirety of the event. She still fought and won the gold beating Canada’s Michelle Li in the finals.
Sindhu who is going to sit out of the World Championship has opened up on how medication has helped her from stress. “I have been practicing meditation for a long time and always felt a relief as I connected very well within through meditation,” she said at the concluding session of the International Rising With Kindness youth Setup as she connected virtually and shared a few things from her illustrious career. “Meditation helps stress go off. I wish the youth don’t forget to take to meditation,” she explained.
International Rising With Kindness Youth Setup was a three day event organized by Heartfulness. The event came to an end on Sunday at the Kanha Shanti Vanam in Hyderabad which is also the headquarters of Heartfulness in Hyderabad. Therefore SIndhu was a special guest and this was her first public meeting after her recent Commonwealth Games triumph. It is so shocking to imagine that Sindhu did not have the Commonwealth gold medal in her cabinet so this was a very important achievement for the badminton ace who will now be out for a few weeks with a stress fracture.
She confirmed her injury update on social media which broke many hearts of the Indian fans who were excited to see her in action once again. “While I am on the high of winning a gold medal at the CWG for India, unfortunately I have to pull out of the World Championships. I felt pain and there was an injury scare at the quarter finals of the CWG, but with the help of my coach, physio and trainer, I decided to push as far as I could,” Sindhu wrote on Twitter.
The badminton ace added how the pain was beyond tolerance and therefore a decision like this was reached only after consultation and thinking about the future events. “The pain was unbearable during and post the finals. Hence I rushed for an MRI as soon as I got back to Hyderabad. The doctors confirmed a stress fracture on my left foot and recommended rest for a few weeks.”
The World Championships will be held in Tokyo from August 22 and with Sindhu out of the event there will be eyes on Lakshya Sen who also won gold at the Commonwealth Games. A total of 12 Indian shuttlers have had podium finishes but Sindhu’s Gold medal at the 2019 World Championships remains India’s only gold till date.
