India star shuttler and World Badminton Championship Bronze Medalist Sai Praneeth made a Rs.4 Lakh donation on Wednesday to help fight the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic disease, which has killed over 80,000 across the globe.
Praneeth, who has already secured his place in the already postponed Tokyo Olympics games, donated Rs.3 Lakh to the PM relief fund and 1 lakh for Telangana state CM relief fund.
Praneeth released a statement on his twitter handle saying he had contributed 3 lakh for PM relief fund and 1 lakh Telangana state PM relief fund. “the donations are meant for the fight against coronavirus. I hope my contributions help the nation in one way or the other in this challenging period”.
Praneeth has joined the likes of PV Sindhu, Parupali Kashyap, and chief national coach Pullela Gopichand to make financial pledges to help fight the pandemic disease.
Reporters quizzed Praneeth after he made the donations about how he felt about the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics. He said, ” for me well; it has given me enough time to prepare ahead of next year, and it is a good step taken by the Olympic body considering the pandemic outbreak across the world. I just hope things get back to normal, and sporting activities can resume worldwide.”
The coronavirus, which originated from the city of Wuhan in China, has claimed the lives of 150 people with 5100 infected in India.
