Los Angeles Lakers coach Frank Vogel has confirmed that superstar Anthony Davis did not take part in the practice session. Vogel has revealed that Davis is doubtful for a big clash against the LA Clippers but they are hopeful he will play in the opening match, as the NBA season resumes in the bubble.
Davis’ eye is still bothering him after he was poked in his eye during the first quarter on the 25th July scrimmage and he could sit out of the match against Clippers. The big man didn’t return to practice after the first quarter.
Frank Vogel said, “There is some concern that he potentially will not play Thursday, but we’re hopeful that he does.”
Anthony Davis had to also sit out of the third NBA scrimmage along with his teammate LeBron James. The LA Lakers have been cautious in their approach of handling their big players as they want them to be injury-free for the rest of the season.
On the other hand, Frank Vogel also confirmed Dwight Howard is feeling some soreness in his knees and thus he avoided practice. Kyle Kuzma took part in the practice sessions and there are no ankle issues as far as he is concerned.
Meanwhile, the LA Lakers have looked like a potent side in the scrimmages despite losing one match to the Dallas Mavericks.
In fact, former NBA MVP Charles Barkley feels LA Lakers will depend heavily on the shoulders of Anthony Davis. Barkley added that if the Lakers win the NBA championship it will be because of Davis. Barkley feels no one can match Davis in the NBA and if Lakers are to dictate terms, then it would depend on the form of the 27-year old power forward.
The NBA season will resume in the bubble and the LA Lakers will lock horns with LA Clippers on Friday at 6:30am IST.
