Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas feels legendary Michael Jordan was a league above all other players in his era. Jordan is regarded as one of the best Basketball players of all time and won five NBA titles in his glorious career.
The former Chicago Bulls player was always hungry for success at the top level and was known to give his 120% on the court. Jordan was lethal in his preparation and left no stone unturned in the training sessions.
Arenas feels Jordan was like Bugatti Veyron whereas other players were like Honda Civics in the 1990s.
“Basically, all Jordan’s competition in that era did not even have the physical tools to keep up with him. So he was basically a Bugatti and everybody else was a Honda Civic. All the shooting guards were 6’4 and under. They didn’t have no jumping ability, right? So who he went against, he’s saying they wasn’t talented meaning they wasn’t athletic to keep up with them today,” Arenas said on Gil Arena podcast.
On the other hand, Anthony Edwards recently said there was lack of skills during Michael Jordan’s playing days but now it is a different ball game altogether.
“I didn’t watch it back in the day so I can’t speak on it. They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don’t think anybody had skill back then. (Jordan) was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean? So that’s why when they saw Kobe, they were like, ‘Oh, my God.’ But now everybody has skill,” Edwards said in an interview with Wall Street Journal.
Michael Jordan was cut from a different cloth and not many players were at the same level as he was during his era. MJ ended his career with 32,292 total points and a 30.1-points-per-game average.
