USA head coach Steve Kerr admitted the Olympic semifinal clash against Serbia was one of the greatest basketball games he has ever been part of. The Americans were down by 17 points at one stage and they were staring at the barrel of the gun but bounced back to register a 95-91 win and with it, secured their final berth.
“I’m really humbled to have been a part of this game,” U.S. coach Steve Kerr said as quoted by ESPN. “It’s one of the greatest basketball games I’ve ever been a part of. They were perfect. They played a perfect game.”
Meanwhile, Joel Embiid, who has been booed by the French crowd in the ongoing Games, was brilliant, scoring 19 points.
“Joel was everything,” LeBron James said. “Made every big shot.”
Steph Curry was at his absolute best, putting on an exhibition of three-point shooting. The Golden State Warriors’ talisman scored 36 points, scoring 9-of-14 3-pointers and two free throws that sealed the victory.
“For all of us being superstars and Hall of Famers on our respective teams and what we’ve all accomplished, the buy-in is there and it’s the only way you can do it to win,” Curry said. “To come back the way we did, I’ve seen a lot of Team USA basketball, and that was special.”
On the other hand, Jokic had 17 points and 11 assists whereas Bogdan Bogdanovic added 20 points for Serbia but their efforts went in vain.
Team USA will face France on Saturday in a rematch of the 2021 Olympic final. The US is looking to win its fifth consecutive Olympic Gold medal.
