San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has heaped praise on Ja Morant and said he is a beautiful player. Morant scored 52 points for Memphis Grizzlies against the Spurs on Monday night. Thus, the talisman recorded his best score for Memphis Grizzlies this season and he was delighted after his performance, which he dedicated to his daughter, who was watching him on the court.
Morant has been a consistent performer for Memphis Grizzlies and he has also put his name in the MVP list contention. The linchpin scored 46 points in the team’s previous match against Chicago Bulls, which Memphis won by 116-110.
Morant’s dominant performance of 52 points helped his team convincingly beat San Antonio Spurs by 118-105. Morant shot 22-30 field goals and 4-7 free throws.
“He’s a beautiful player,” Popovich said of Morant. “What else can you say about him? It’s not just that he’s athletic. Everybody says, ‘He’s athletic.’ Somebody says, ‘He’s a freak of nature,’ because he’s so fast. … But he makes decisions. He knows what is going on on the court.
On the other hand, Ja Morant gave his gratitude to his teammates for his success and picked scoring 50-points as the most memorable moment of the match for him.
“It’s got to be the 50,” Morant said. “I’m thankful for my teammates, my coaches. They believe in me and have all the confidence in the world that I’ll make the right plays.”
Meanwhile, Memphis Grizzlies currently have a 43-20 record and they are in third place in the Western Conference standings. A lot of credit for Memphis’ success goes to Morant as he has been averaging 27.1 ppg.
Memphis Grizzlies will next face Boston Celtics on Thursday.
