LA Lakers talisman LeBron James bemoaned the team’s injury woes after their first round playoff exit. The Lakers were defeated 113-100 by the Phoenix Suns in the sixth game of the series and they were knocked out after losing 4-2.
The Lakers were not at full strength and their whole season was hampered by injuries.
Earlier, Anthony Davis was ruled out with an Achilles Tendon injury whereas LeBron James missed matches due to an ankle sprain. Furthermore, Davis was ruled out in the fourth match of the playoff series after suffering from a groin injury.
Moreover, LeBron James was not at his 100% whereas the supporting cast couldn’t chip in their contribution. It is well known that the Lakers depend heavily on the shoulders of Anthony Davis and LeBron James and both of them were not at their best due to injury woes.
“The one thing that bothers me more than anything is we never got an opportunity to see our team at full strength because of injury, because of COVID or because of something going on with our ball club this year,” James told reporters.
James scored 29 points but his efforts were in vain against the Suns in the sixth game as Devin Booker came up with a fine performance to score 47 points as Suns won by 113-100.
“We could never fully get into a rhythm and never see the full potential of what we were capable of. We obviously fell short of our goal but we tried to do everything to be as good as we could be under the circumstances.”
“Every team has to deal with it obviously but us and (last year’s finalists) Miami Heat, going the long haul in the bubble and then coming right back short notice to this season, it has been very draining,” he added.
James, who is a three time Olympics medallist, also confirmed that he won’t be representing the USA in the Tokyo Olympics.
“Nah, I think I’m going to play for the Tune Squad this summer instead of the Olympics,” he said with a grin.
