Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick was not impressed with the team’s offense in the third quarter in a 111-97 loss against the Golden State Warriors in the preseason. The Lakers could only score 19 points in the third quarter and could not bring their best on the offense.
While Redick was happy with the shots’ quality, he feels they didn’t trust their offense as they were a bit stagnant.
“I was highly encouraged with the shots we got,” Redick told reporters after the 111-97 loss. “It was when we didn’t trust our offense and got a little stagnant, ball stuck and that was the beginning of that third quarter.”
“It’s not how we wanna play and that’s okay,” JJ Redick said. “It happens, we’ll get better.”
On the other hand, Anthony Davis was the best Lakers player as he registered 24 points and 12 rebounds in 26 minutes. Redick said they will look to empower Davis on both sides of the court.
“It’s our job to empower him on both sides of the basketball to have a monster year. And I thought he had a monster year last year. But I think the way we want to play, he’s gonna be featured like he always is, but he’s also gonna be hopefully perpetually involved.”
Meanwhile, NBA insider Jovan Buha showered praise on Anthony Davis for his solid performance despite the loss against the Dubs.
Buha said on Buha’s Block podcast, “I thought he was able to face up and make and-1’s against guys, and, like, I just thought he looked really good and really assertive. And I thought he was really engaged.”
“I thought AD looked incredible. I think, overall, he’s looked pretty solid during the preseason. On one level, I did like seeing some of the isos and post-ups, particularly for him. He was scoring on almost all of them.”
The Lakers will begin their NBA 2024-25 campaign against the Minnesota Timberwolves on 22nd October at the Crypto.com arena.
