Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas reckons there was no biasness when USA’s LeBron James was voted Olympics Most Valuable Player ahead of his teammate Steph Curry. The USA clinched their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal after beating France by 98-87 in the final.
James averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists on 66% shooting in the Olympics and thus played an instrumental role in taking his team to glory.
LeBron James was named Olympic MVP after scoring 14 points with six rebounds and 10 assists in the summit clash.
On the other hand, Steph Curry, who scored 36 points against Serbia in the semifinal, added 24 points in the final, including eight three-pointers. The Golden State Warriors star averaged 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.7 steals per game at the Games.
“This wasn’t an American committee who voted,” Gilbert Arenas said on Gil’s Arena” show.
“So this has no bias on it. You’re trying to take a 2-minute moment and pretend that it happened the whole Olympic games,” he added.
On the other hand, former NBA player Stephon Marbury thinks otherwise. He said that LeBron James didn’t deserve the MVP award.
“They gave the MVP to the wrong player,” Marbury wrote on Instagram.
“Maybe they called out the wrong name by accident … In international ball, if you can’t shoot, you can’t have the ball at the end of the game.
“I get LeBron is the King to many, but let me say this: when you give him what he doesn’t deserve, you basically say that because of what he’s done, he should receive such a high honor on the biggest stage. No, he didn’t earn it this time,” he added.
