The LA Lakers recently scripted history as they won their 17th NBA title to equal the Boston Celtics record of most championships in the history of the league. The Lakers had a complete season as they dominated the opposition with great success.
Meanwhile, the next season of the NBA is all set to kick off from December 22. Thus, the two finalists – Lakers and the Miami Heat are not too happy with it as they got an offseason of only 71 days to recharge their batteries.
A 72-game season is on its way and it will be a tough job for the players. Furthermore, Lakers star players like LeBron James and Anthony Davis had recently shown their displeasure regarding an early start to the next season.
However, the team’s head coach Frank Vogel is unperturbed by it and stated that they are a team which embraces challenges and it is another one in their way to defend their title. The last team to successfully defend their title was Golden State Warriors in 2018 and the Lakers would look to continue their domination in the next season.
“The 72-game season we’re about to endure is something that we feel good about,” Vogel said. “Obviously, it’s been a super quick turnaround for the team, the shortest offseason in the history of the NBA, but this is a team that embraces challenges. This is just the next challenge in line for us.”
Vogel added that his team players as well as the support staff are looking forward to the challenges and they will look to grab their opportunities. The head coach is optimistic that his team will be able to replicate the same performances of the past season.
He said, “The opportunity to dive into all the challenges that come with trying to repeat as an NBA champion is something that myself, my staff and the front office are looking forward to. Our players are ready to go.
“Last year was about system implementation and trying to tweak the plan and put it all together. This season we’ll have more strength behind what we are doing, right from the start.”
The Lakers have all the skills to defend their title and their big players will once again play an instrumental role in their title defence.
