Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant was delighted after his team defeated Chennai Super Kings by three wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium by three wickets.
Pant said it was a big win for them as it almost assures that they will finish among the top two teams in the league stage, which will give them two chances in the qualifiers.
Delhi has now won 10 out of the 13 matches they have played and they have 20 points under their bag. Thus, RCB will need to win their last two matches by a big margin as currently, their NRR is in the negative while CSK will also need to win their final match, for Delhi Capitals to finish at third place.
Meanwhile, Delhi once again came up with a potent bowling performance against CSK as they restricted the opposition to an under-par score of 136 runs after Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Axar Patel was the pick of the Delhi bowlers as he scalped two wickets and conceded only 18 runs in his quota of four overs. Furthermore, Kagiso Rabada and Ravichandran Ashwin also bowled economical spells as they conceded 21 and 20 runs respectively in their allotted four overs..
On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan played a good knock of 39 runs to help his team get close to the target. However, DC found themselves behind the eighth-ball in the fag end of the innings however Shimron Hetmyer was able to get his team over the line as he scored a fine knock of 28 runs off just 18 balls with the help of a couple of fours and a six.
Rishabh Pant stated Prithvi Shaw gave a good start to the team despite the fact he scored only 18 runs.
Rishabh Pant said while talking in the post-match presentation, “Not a birthday present, was a tough match, we made it tough for ourselves. In the end, if we win everything is fine. In the powerplay, they came hard and got away. After that, we bowled some good overs. In the end, they got away with some extra runs. With the bat, Prithvi got us to a good start. We were always in the chase as it was a low total, in the end, we got over the line. Prithvi is going to play that way and Shikhar is going to help him playing that way, but he started well. We got what we needed from him and in the end, Hetty (Hetmyer) finished it off for us. (On Ashwin’s promotion) We were just trying to keep the right-left combination. Big win, because of this we can be absolutely sure that we can finish in top two. So it’s a great win for us”.
DC has been coming up with collective efforts in the ongoing season and they will look to continue their good form in the playoffs. Pant has also led from the front and he has done a fine job as a leader of the team.
Delhi will play their last league stage match of the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
