Delhi Capitals fast bowler Avesh Khan gave credit to Rishabh Pant for bestowing trust in him in the ongoing season of the IPL 2021. Khan has been one of the biggest positives for the Delhi Capitals as he has delivered the goods for the franchise.
The young fast bowler has impressed with his accuracy as well as his pace.
Khan is currently the second-highest wicket-taker of the ongoing season as he has scalped 23 wickets in 15 matches at an impressive average of 14.86 and he has bowled with an economy rate of 7.50.
Khan revealed that Rishabh Pant has shown trust in him and the DC captain has been guiding him on what to bowl and what not to bowl. The fast bowler from Indore added that he knows Pant from the Under-19 days and shares a good understanding with the wicket-keeper batter.
Avesh has impressed with his ability to nail the yorkers in the death overs and he has kept out experienced bowlers like Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav from Delhi’s playing XI. The fast bowler has definitely grown in confidence and he has grabbed his chances with both hands.
Avesh Khan said while talking to ESPN Cricinfo, “It is good for me that the team management has trusted me, especially Rishabh Pant. He is always telling me what to bowl, what not to bowl. The entire credit goes to him. We have played together since the U-19 days. He gives me a signal from behind the wicket and I know what delivery he wants me to bowl, then I just focus on executing the ball.”
Khan added that he wanted to grab his opportunity with both hands and he was able to do the same when Rabada and Nortje were not available for selection due to quarantine protocols whereas Ishant Sharma was nursing an injury.
“Every year I would prepare with the mindset that I would play from the first match, but unfortunately, I would never get the chance. Last 2 years I got 1 match each. This season, though, Rabada and Nortje were not available for the first 2 games, and Ishant Sharma was injured, so Rishabh Pant trusted me so I wanted to make full use of the opportunity of playing from the first game itself.”
DC will face KKR in the second qualifier on Wednesday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
