Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has stated that these 14 matches won’t take away the glory which his incredible group has achieve over the last couple of years.
MI has had a stellar run in the IPL and they have been the most consistent and formidable unit.
MI has mostly come up with a collective effort, which has been the key to their success. The Rohit Sharma-led have won three out of the last four seasons in the tournament, which goes to show their consistency.
MI has always ticked the right boxes over the years but they were not able to come up with their best in IPL 2021. The Rohit Sharma-led team won only seven matches out of the 14 they played and could not qualify for the playoff stages due to poor NRR.
Rohit took to his Instagram handle to share a few words for the franchise. The teams will get reshuffle after the upcoming mega auction and this MI team has definitely left a legacy in the tournament.
“A season full of ups and downs. A season full of learnings. But these 14 matches won’t take away the glory this incredible group achieved over the last 2-3 seasons. Every player who don the blue & gold, played with pride. Every player who walked in, gave his best. And that’s what makes us the team we are – ONE FAMILY! ?? @mumbaiindians”
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma didn’t have the best of seasons as he could only muster 381 runs in 13 matches at a paltry average of 29.30 and a strike rate of 127.42. Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is surprised that Rohit hasn’t had a big season in the IPL over the years.
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Gautam Gambhir said: “I don’t understand why he never had that one big IPL season ever and I have no reason to probably even defend him.
He’s a world-class player, I’ve always admired him. When he first busted onto the scene in international cricket, I said even then, that he’s the best talent India has ever produced. But it just amazes me that when he wears that MI Jersey, he’s never had a season like what VK or KL Rahul had – a 600 run season.”
