Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Chris Morris believes the franchise has got some young players who are going to play for India in the future.
Young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, and Kartik Tyagi have impressed while playing for the inaugural champions.
Morris feels it is imperative to give opportunities to these young talents who have got great skills under their belt. Jaiswal has scored a couple of good knocks in the last few matches whereas Kartik Tyagi bowled a match-winning over against Punjab Kings as he conceded a solitary run in the final over when four runs were left in the bank.
Meanwhile, RR could have scored more than 180 runs against SRH on Monday but the middle order failed to add the finishing touches. Samson scored a good knock of 82 runs but Mahipal Lomror struggled to get going as he could only manage 29 runs from 28 balls.
“We are absolutely right to give them (young Indian players) opportunities because we’ve got some young players who are going to play for India over the next couple of years. The guys that are getting opportunities are seriously good players and they are playing for a reason. There is no one in the team who doesn’t deserve to be there,” Morris said, defending the young Indian contingent in the team.
On the other hand, Morris added that the team needs to support Sanju Samson, who is batting well at the moment. Samson was the lone warrior with the bat for RR against SRH.
“In terms of getting runs, everyone needs to be scoring more runs. Sanju (Samson) is obviously playing so well. We have glimpses of guys scoring runs but it’s pretty simple – all of us have to contribute a lot more. You can’t have one player do it for you every game. End of the day, every single player is being picked on merit,” Morris opined.
Rajasthan Royals have managed to win only four matches out of the 10 they have played and they need to win almost all their matches in order to qualify for the playoff stages. Morris added the team needs to fight for each point for the remaining four matches of the league stage.
“Absolutely, there are four teams vying for that last playoffs spot and there are some seriously good teams. That is very tough but this is the best and the toughest tournament in the world. There are some world-class players and every game is going to be tough whether it is SRH, who are at the bottom, and showed their class tonight, or you are playing the guys who are at the top of the log, who are there for a reason,” he said.
“It’s crunch time now and we need to start stringing some important results together. Like we keep saying, win the big moments in the game. We need to get every single point that we possibly can to push for that last playoffs spot because it is getting tough,” he concluded.
RR will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on 29th September at the same venue of Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
