India’s veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is still hopeful that Yuzvendra Chahal will be included in the team’s T20 World Cup squad at the 11th hour.
Chahal is India’s highest wicket-taker in the T20Is but he was not included in the squad as he wasn’t in the best of forms.
However, Chahal has made a roaring comeback in the second phase of the IPL while playing for RCB. Chahal had a poor run in the first run of IPL 2021 as he could only manage four wickets in seven matches. However, the leg-spinner was able to turn the tables in the second phase as he came up with his best.
The experienced spinner has bounced back in style as he has bagged a total of 10 wickets in five matches of the second phase of IPL 2021. Overall, Chahal has scalped 14 wickets in 12 matches of the ongoing season at an average of 21.21 and an impressive economy rate of 7.34.
Thus, he has played a key role in the success of RCB and has helped them qualify for the playoff stages. On the other hand, the All India Selection Committee picked as many as five spinners in the 15-man T20 World Cup squad for the Indian team.
“You have given ur best as always.. keep it up.. and make sure u keep bowling the right pace .. Not too slow OK..still hoping to see you in team India for T20 World Cup.. Champion bowler,” said Harbhajan in a tweet that he posted in reply to Chahal’s post.
Meanwhile, the Chetan Sharma-led selection panel picked Rahul Chahar ahead of Chahal but the MI spinner isn’t in the best of forms. The selectors also surprised everyone with the inclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin. Chetan had revealed that they went with Chahar as he bowls quicker through the air.
“Yuzvendra Chahal’s name was discussed. But we picked Rahul Chahar over Yuzi as we wanted someone who bowls fast and gets pace off the pitch. He also gets the ball to grip through the surface.”
Chahal has proven his mettle and it would be interesting to note if he would be included in the Indian squad on the basis of his current form.
