Indian skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that the 2024 win is more special than the 2007 as he was leading the team. Rohit was a rookie in the inaugural T20I showpiece, which India won under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
Rohit was able to lead from the front and got the best out of his players in the USA and the West Indies. The Indian veteran was spot on with his field placements and bowling changes throughout the tournament and got the job done as a leader.
Rohit Sharma scored 257 runs in eight matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.71. Furthermore, Rohit Sharma finished his T20I career as the leading run-getter in the format, with 4231 runs in 159 matches. Rohit gave blistering starts at the top of the order and took the attack to the opposition from the get-go despite Kohli’s poor form.
“2007 was a different feeling, we started off in the afternoon and this is in the evening. I cannot forget 2007 as it was my first World Cup. This is little more special because I was leading the team so it’s a very proud moment for me. This is going to be mad. You can make out the excitement and it shows how much it means not just to us but also to the entire nation. It means a lot. So, I am very happy that we could achieve something like this for them as well,” said Rohit in a video released by BCCI.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma finished his T20I career as the leading run-getter in the format, with 4231 runs in 159 matches. After India’s World Cup victory, Rohit Sharma decided to call it a day on his T20I career.
