80 percent of people enjoyed our bowling – Mohammed Shami on India’s performance in World Cup 2023
India’s gun fast bowler Mohammed Shami was delighted with India’s consistent bowling performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. Shami ended the tournament as the highest wicket-taker with 24 scalps in seven matches and he bowled with an impressive average of 10.71, including three five-wicket hauls and one four-wicket haul in the ODI showpiece.
Furthermore, Jasprit Bumrah snared 20 wickets in 11 matches at a fine average of 18.65 and an economy rate of 4.06. Moreover, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav picked up 16 and 15 wickets respectively in 11 matches of the ODI World Cup. Siraj also took 14 wickets in 11 matches of the World Cup.
In fact, Indian team were able to bag a total of 100 wickets in the 11 World Cup matches and bowled out all the oppositions barring Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia in the summit clash.
Meanwhile, India has always been known for their batting prowess over the years but India’s bowling has taken giant strides in the last decade and pace battery has been right on the money.
“From the day I was born, I was hearing that there is hardly any team that can match India’s batting might. We used to keep hearing that. Indian cricket was known because of its batters,” Shami told Aajtak.
“In this World Cup, the way we played, I think 80 percent of people enjoyed our bowling line-up. It was a different atmosphere at the stadiums in the ground. I can sense that the public was enjoying our bowling performance. The crowd enjoyed our bowling show and we also enjoyed each other’s success,” Shami further added.
India’s bowling line-up played an instrumental role in the team’s success and took them to the final but the Rohit Sharma-led side could not cross the final hurdle against Australia.
Meanwhile, Shami will be seen in action in the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa. The first Test match between India and South Africa will be played at the SuperSport Park, Centurion from December 26.
