Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra showered praise on Punjab Kings after Shreyas Iyer’s team registered a convincing 54-run win against Lucknow Super Giants at New Chandigarh on Sunday. PBKS have stayed unbeaten in the first six matches of IPL 2026, winning five games whereas one of their games against KKR ended in no-result due to rain.
Thus, the Mohali-based franchise became the first IPL team to stay unbeaten in the first six games in the tournament’s history. PBKS posted an above par score of 254 runs on the board after Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly scored 93 and 87 runs respectively. The left-handed duo added 182 runs off just 80 balls to put PBKS in front.
“The Punjab Kings have created history. They have become the first team in the history of the IPL to stay undefeated in six consecutive games at the start of the tournament. It had never happened to date. Five was the previous best. Of course, they don’t have 12 points because it had rained. So one point was snatched away from them there, but with 11 points, they are head and shoulders above the rest,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
Chopra said PBKS have been unstoppable with the bat and they have ticked the right boxes.
“They were invited to bat first, and they scored more than 250 runs. What a team you are. They and RCB are the two monster batting sides. We have still seen RCB struggling. They got stuck against RR once, and then they got stuck against DC once. They (PBKS) are not getting stuck at all. No one is able to stop them,” he observed.
On the other hand, the renowned commentator also praised PBKS’ bowling battery and said he has been really impressed with Vijaykumar Vyshak, who has all the variety in his arsenal.
“PBKS bowled very well. The bowler I liked the most was Vijaykumar Vyshak, again an uncapped Indian bowler. I feel he also should play for India going ahead. So, well done, PBKS, outstanding. You will finish No. 1 this time. If things go right, history is beckoning. Let me not say it right now. Let me not jinx it,” Chopra observed.
Vyshak returned with figures of 1-30 in his four overs against LSG. Punjab Kings will next take on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Saturday.
