Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra is not sure whether Ruturaj Gaikwad’s selection in the ODI squad for the West Indies series is a comeback or not for the batter. Gaikwad has scored 228 runs in nine ODI matches at an average of 28.50.
The right-hander had scored a fine knock of 105 runs off just 83 balls against South Africa in the last ODI innings at Raipur in 2025.
India already has the services of Shreyas Iyer in the middle order and thus it would be difficult for Gaikwad to break into the playing XI.
“It is a three-match ODI series. There should be no questions or doubts regarding Rohit Sharma now, so he is in the team. There is, of course, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill is the captain of the squad. Ruturaj Gaikwad is part of this team. Sometimes I don’t know whether he is making a comeback or not, because you don’t play him. The last time he played he had made a 100, and you dropped him,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan has not been picked in the ODI squad as he has been selected in the T20I team for the Asian Games. However, Ravindra Jadeja has been picked in the ODI squad for the West Indies series.
“Ishan Kishan is not a part of the ODI team because he will be playing T20I at the Asian Games. There are so many teams that are actually overlapping. Another big news is that Ravindra Jadeja returns, and that means he is still in the scheme of things. Of course, Axar Patel is not a part of this team; he is part of the Asian Games team. So Ravindra Jadeja’s inclusion is actually good news,” Aakash Chopra said.
