Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra picked Jofra Archer’s performance as one of the key reasons behind Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2026 playoff qualification. Rajasthan Royals registered a 30-run win against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
RR were able to finish strongly as Jofra Archer scored a crucial cameo of 15-ball 32. Thus, RR were able to post 205 runs on the board.
Furthermore, Archer returned with impressive figures of 3-17 in his quota of four overs. The gun fast bowler accounted for Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir and Hardik Pandya and was awarded Player of the Match.
“Jofra in fast bowling. Jofra single-handedly. This guy has done an incredible job. He won the Mumbai match on his own because he first scored runs with the bat and then picked up wickets with the ball. I think Jofra Archer was outstanding,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
Chopra added that RR’s spin attack has performed better than the expectations. Yash Raj Punja conceded 44 runs in his four overs but bagged crucial wickets of Corbin Bosch and Will Jacks. Furthermore, Ravindra Jadeja has an economy rate of 8.14 in the ongoing season.
“One thing flew under the radar. One didn’t think they would become one of the best spin-bowling units. Ravi Bishnoi started very well. Ravindra Jadeja has picked up wickets and has been very economical, and then Yash Raj Punja’s inclusion. They have taken 30 wickets among these three spinners, and they have become one of the best spin-bowling units,” he observed.
Moreover, the renowned commentator hailed the opening duo of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal for giving a brisk start to their team in the Powerplay overs in the ongoing season.
“They win the Powerplay on the might of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal. In fact, this team has the highest Powerplay run rate, and this team has hit the highest number of sixes. We have learned this year that you can win the game if you win the Powerplay. They have won almost all games whenever Vaibhav and Yashasvi have had a 50-run partnership,” he said.
Chopra praised RR’s top three batters – Dhruv Jurel, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Yashasvi Jaiswal for their consistent performances.
“Their top three might not be at GT’s level, but they are still there and thereabouts. I still feel Yashasvi’s season has been slightly underwhelming, but if you accumulate 1,400 to 1,500 runs among your top three, you are in a good space,” Chopra observed.
RR will face SRH in the Eliminator on Wednesday.
