Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra questioned Delhi Capitals after they suffered a 23-run loss against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Saturday. After winning their opening two matches, DC have lost their last two games.
DC had suffered a one-run loss against Gujarat Titans in their last game when they needed two runs off the last two balls. Meanwhile, DC conceded 212 runs against Chennai Super Kings and were bowled out for 189 in their 20 overs.
Tristan Stubbs scored 60 runs off 38 balls whereas Pathum Nissanka scored 41 runs off 24 balls but rest of the other DC batters could not get going.
Chopra questioned DC’s team selection and for not completing Auqib Nabi and Kuldeep Yadav’s overs. Both the bowlers bowled two overs apiece.
“Delhi, you had won two, and now you have lost two. What is the advantage of making a good team? Eventually, you need to win games. You have lost two games, and you should have won both. What is the advantage of playing so many bowlers? You are unable to get anyone to bowl their full quota of overs. You couldn’t get either Kuldeep Yadav or Auqib Nabi to bowl their full quota of overs,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
The renowned commentator said team’s batting can not end at number seven irrespective of the number of bowlers they play.
“Everything was going fine. Your batting shouldn’t end at No. 7. So many bowlers aren’t required. Even if they are required, whatever you do, whether you keep six or seven bowlers, your batting can’t finish at No. 7, and it did,” he observed.
Chopra praised DC opener Pathum Nissanka for his fine knock after the loss.
“Pathum Nissanka played very well in the powerplay. He has got this nervous 40s. He got out in the 40s once again, and then wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Tristan Stubbs scored a few runs in the end for sure, but Delhi fell short,” he said.
The renowned commentator heaped praise on CSK bowler Jamie Overton, who returned with impressive figures of 4-18 in his quota of four overs.
“Jamie Overton, thumbs up, well done, because you need something from overseas bowlers. He bowled with good pace and bowled very good bouncers. If you have dismissed Sameer Rizvi, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs, you have taken the heart out of the opposition,” he observed.
Delhi Capitals will next take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday.
