Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has questioned Ravindra Jadeja’s recent performances with the ball in ODI format. In the second ODI against New Zealand at Rajkot, Jadeja returned with figures of 0-44 in eight overs he bowled.
In the opening ODI against the Kiwis, the left-arm orthodox spinner returned with figures of 0-56 in nine overs he bowled. Chopra highlighted that Jadeja’s recent bowling numbers are not great as he is averaging around 250 and has an economy rate of more than six.
“Jadeja’s bowling, five matches, the situation is very bad. He has not done very well. The average is close to 250. The economy has been above six. Whichever way you look at it, a run-out was also missed, he isn’t able to field well and is not scoring runs with the bat,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
The renowned commentator highlighted that Indian spinners failed to create an impact in the second game. Kuldeep Yadav also returned with figures of 1-82 in 10 overs he bowled.
“The Indian spinners didn’t really make an impact. Nitish Kumar Reddy wasn’t bowled much. We had great expectations from spin, but that didn’t work out. At the halfway stage, we felt 285 was a decent total, but the runs were chased so easily. That is a bit of a surprise and a bit of a shock,” he observed.
Meanwhile, Jadeja was dismissed after scoring four runs in the series opener and then scored 27 runs off 44 balls in the second game. Chopra noted that Jadeja has been playing slow but could not convert his start.
“There is a question mark because he was playing extremely slow. Of course, it was a rebuilding phase, but he found a little form, scored a few runs, and then he got out. That’s not good,” he said.
The third ODI between India and New Zealand will be played at Indore on Sunday.
