Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra highlighted that Jasprit Bumrah’s wicketless run goes how cricket is a great leveler. Bumrah is one of the best bowlers across all formats but went wicketless in the first five matches of IPL 2026.
The ace pacer was finally able to end his wicketless run in the ongoing season when he dismissed Gujarat Titans’ opener Sai Sudharsan for a golden duck to give a perfect start to his team at Ahmedabad on Monday.
Bumrah eventually returned with figures of 1-15 in three overs he bowled as Mumbai Indians registered a comprehensive 99-run win to snap their four-game losing streak.
“Bumrah took a wicket on his first ball. Our game is incredible. Who would have thought such a time would come in Jasprit Bumrah’s life, when everybody would celebrate when he takes his first wicket and say, ‘Wow, Jassi has taken a wicket,’” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“Jassi used to take a wicket daily. He is the best bowler of this generation. He is one of the best ever, but what a leveler our game is. It keeps you at the top one day, and makes you fall so far down on another day, for a variety of reasons, it’s not his mistake every time, but this is what this game does to you,” he added.
On the other hand, the renowned commentator also praised Ashwani Kumar, who returned with impressive figures of 4-24 in his four overs. Kumar hit the hard length and accounted for GT skipper Shubman Gill, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan and Shahrukh Khan.
“Ashwani Kumar picked up four wickets. Whenever he takes, he takes four wickets. He had taken four wickets in his debut match as well. He dismissed Ajinkya Rahane that day, and he got Shubman Gill out here,” he observed.
The former KKR batter said GT’s overdependence on their top three batters was exposed once again.
“Gujarat’s overdependence on the top three was exposed once again because their top three score 70 percent of the runs if you look at it in the last two or three years. The No. 4 to No. 6 problem is not going to leave them that easily. They don’t have those good players for those positions,” he said.
Gujarat Titans will next take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Friday.
