Aakash Chopra says cricket will never be the same after India wins Women’s World Cup 2025

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra showered praise on India’s Women team after they won the ODI World Cup 2025. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team defeated South Africa by 52 runs at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday to win their maiden major ICC title.

The win is expected to open the door for a new beginning and it will surely inspire the young girls. Meanwhile, Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma were the star performers for the team in the summit clash.

India posted a fighting score of 298 runs on the board after Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma scored 87 and 58 runs respectively. The Proteas were then skittled out for 246 after Deepti Sharma returned with figures of 5-39. Furthermore, Shafali Verma bagged 2-36 in seven overs she bowled and India gave their all in the field.

“Harmanpreet Kaur’s girls have scripted a new story. The girls shone. We have become the world champions and created history. The names of every player in this team will be written in golden letters. They have done a job like that. They are our pride,” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.

“We have got a new winner after 25 years, and that champion is India. This moment is ours, this century is ours. November 2, 2025 – remember this moment, because cricket will never be the same again,” he added.

Chopra said the players must have realised the gravity of the moment after crossing the last barrier against South Africa.

“The confidence was there. There was no doubt that we were going to win the game, but until you win, you are unable to feel the win, and are unable to understand the gravity of that moment. When Harmanpreet Kaur held that catch, that catch won everyone’s hearts,” he said.

The renowned commentator said the Women’s team has made everyone proud with their accomplishment.

“We have realized once again that we are the center and everything of the universe at this point in time. The girls have made us feel extremely proud. This is that watershed event where everyone who watched will want to become the next Jemi, Harman or Smriti. Women’s cricket was getting better continuously, but they were waiting for that one moment, a spark that turns into a fire. This was that spark that was needed,” Chopra observed.

India would look to carry the good show and keep improving.
