Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra said Glenn Maxwell will want to leave a mark in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which would be his last T20I showpiece. Chopra said there would be plenty of opportunities for the Australian players in the marquee event.
Meanwhile, Maxwell opted out of IPL 2026 mini auction after he could not deliver the goods in the previous edition of the tournament. Maxwell has scored 2835 runs in 126 T20I matches at an average of 29.23 and a strike rate of 155.77.
“Plenty of opportunities. This will be the Big Show’s last World Cup. So he will want to leave a big impact. He has now said goodbye to the IPL as well. So this is that time, and he is batting well in the BBL (Big Bash League). He hit an almost 150-meter six,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
The renowned commentator noted that Maxwell has been in good form and he has the skills to turn the match on its head with his blistering batting.
“He is in good form and he is also someone who changes the match. Everyone still remembers the Afghanistan match. Glenn Maxwell played the best knock in ODI World Cup history. He scored a double hundred while standing on one leg and made his team win. So when I look from the perspective that this is Glenn Maxwell’s last World Cup, this is a massive opportunity for him,” he observed.
The former KKR batter said the upcoming World Cup provides an opportunity to Australian captain Mitchell Marsh to prove his mettle.
“Mitchell Marsh, who has come this far after making the team win consistently, but come this big event, will he stand up and get counted? They have Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh, who are all very strong. We associate them with superheroes, but there are opportunities,” he said.
T20 World Cup will commence from February 7 onwards.
