Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has showered praise on Virat Kohli after India won the first ODI against New Zealand by four wickets at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara on Sunday. Kohli scored a match-winning knock of 93 runs off just 91 balls with the help of eight fours and one six and thus was awarded Player of the Match.
Once again, the talisman was able to hit the ground running and took the attack against the opposition from the get-go. Kohli also breached the 28000 runs mark in International cricket across all formats, becoming the second player to do so after Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli has been in rich form in the recent past and continued his purple patch against the Kiwis.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel, “If we talk about impact. He is not called the run-machine just like that. He has won many clutch moments on the global stage and in World Cups for India. He has won Test matches for India. He’s also a leader. He has inspired a generation. Want to define greatness? Virat Kohli is the definition of greatness.”
The renowned commentator said Kohli is not slowing down despite being at the fag end of his career.
“It includes fitness and form. We are talking about an 18-year-old long international career and counting. He’s not slowing down.”
The former Delhi cricketer said Kohli is adapting as per the demands of the ODI format, as he is looking to bat aggressively from the get-go.
“Another factor to look at is adaptability. He’s played all three formats in different countries and different conditions. He has ruled and dominated over there. Even now, in one-dayers, he is adapting as per the demands of the format. He has started using the sweep, hits pacers for straight sixes.”
The second ODI between India and New Zealand will be played at Rajkot on Wednesday.
