Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra slammed Lucknow Super Giants’ performance after Rishabh Pant’s team suffered a five-wicket loss against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Wednesday.
LSG was bowled out for 146 runs as once again their top order failed to deliver the goods. None of the LSG batters could convert their starts and the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Thus, they could not find any impetus throughout their innings.
LSG has managed two wins in five matches so far in IPL 2026 and their batting is looking tentative in the tournament.
“Lucknow Super Giants, there is nothing giant about this performance right now, and the problems are deepening because Rishabh Pant has gotten injured and Nicholas Pooran still hasn’t scored runs. So, problems galore,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
Chopra said LSG lacks consistency and firepower in their batting in the ongoing season.
He added, “They lack consistency and firepower in batting. Both things are not there. They neither have consistency nor firepower. Neither does any batter have form nor is anyone ready to take responsibility, whether it’s Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram or Rishabh Pant,” the cricketer-turned-commentator observed.
The renowned commentator said Mukul Choudhary and Ayush Badoni showed some fight, but it wasn’t good enough.
“Mukul Choudhary and Ayush Badoni showed sparks of brilliance or gave a little resistance, but not good enough. You have batting till George Linde now, and despite that, you didn’t score 180 or 190. I am not saying this was a 225-run pitch, but it wasn’t a 150-run one either, and you couldn’t even reach there,” he added.
Chopra added that LSG is looking like the poorest batting unit in IPL 2026 among all the teams.
“The Lucknow Super Giants are looking the poorest batting unit at the moment. They have been very good with the ball. In fact, here also, you had taken five wickets in the end, and you brought the thrill in the match,” he said.
Lucknow Super Giants will next take on Punjab Kings at New Chandigarh on Sunday.
