Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch reckons Kolkata Knight Riders should not be hesitant in dropping Cameron Green amid his struggles in IPL 2026. The Australian all-rounder is yet to make a positive impact with neither bat nor the ball in the ongoing IPL 2026 after he was bought for a hefty amount of INR 25.20 crore in the mini auction.
The right-hander was dismissed for a golden duck by Noor Ahmad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Tuesday against CSK. Furthermore, Green returned with expensive figures of 0-30 in the two overs he bowled.
Green was also taken for 16 runs in the penultimate over against LSG by Mukul Choudhary.
Aaron Finch said on ESPN Cricinfo, “When you’ve got as much experience in that dugout, you think that they’d be at least making the right calls at the right time. To Cameron Green batting at No. 6, that’s an unusual position for him. I don’t think he’s done that a huge amount in T20 cricket.
Finch also highlighted Green’s trouble while playing against spin, especially at the start of his innings.
“Starting against two spinners [Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad], he only lasted one ball. But that’s his worst nightmare, walking out to bat [against spin], particularly in a run chase. I don’t think you ever pick a team on price tags. That would be really ignorant to do that. Because buying at the auction is a supply and demand of a skill set that you bring. It’s not about, well, we have to play this guy because we paid this much for him.”
The 2021 T20 World Cup winning captain said the three-time champions can think of adding Tim Seifert to their team.
He concluded, “You’ve got Seifert sitting in the wings, he’s a specialist opener. Cameron Green hasn’t played a huge amount of T20 cricket recently, because of injuries. So you’ve got a guy there who brings a good skill set and really good form in Seifert, coming off a good [T20] World Cup. Who’s got the scoops, he’s got the ramps, he’s got a lot of different options.”
Kolkata Knight Riders will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Friday.
