Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch questioned Delhi Capitals’ surprising tactics after they suffered an eight-wicket loss against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Tuesday. Finch slammed Axar Patel’s decision to bat first against the five-time champions on a tricky pitch.
DC meandered to 155-7 in their 20 overs, and the visitors were able to chase down the total with 15 balls to spare. Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs scored 40 and 38 runs respectively, but none of the other DC batters were able to show much resistance, whereas Sanju Samson scored a match-winning knock of 87 runs off just 52 balls for CSK.
DC has failed to achieve any kind of consistency with the bat in the ongoing season and they would need to turn a corner in the upcoming matches.
Aaron Finch said on ESPN Cricinfo, “A big mess-up. You can’t sugarcoat it any easier than that. You’ve got all the information in front of you. They haven’t won batting first. Makes no sense. We keep scratching our heads with some decisions that DC make. I can understand if you are making calls on the field on the fly. You are making a gut feel call. But when you have got all the information in front of you, that’s when you shouldn’t be making mistakes.
“You can understand poor execution, winning and losing. That’s professional sport, but when it comes down to black and white decisions that you are getting wrong time and time again, that’s a concern.” Finch went on to add.
Meanwhile, DC have managed a solitary win out of the five games they have played at their home ground in Delhi. Head coach Hemang Badani revealed they don’t have any control over the surfaces in the ongoing season.
He said in the post-match press conference, “We don’t have any control over the surfaces. There is a clear mandate from the BCCI that they look after the surfaces and they are the ones who ensure that there’s no local side that gets benefit out of the surfaces. So you play what is presented to you. And yes, it’s been a bit of an up-and-down curve for us to understand what we are going to get at Delhi, which is our home.”
Delhi Capitals will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Friday.
