Former Indian assistant coach Abhishek Nayar believes there is no need to hit the panic button in the ongoing T20I series against England. India is trailing by 0-2 in the series after losing the third T20I by a massive margin of 125 runs at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Tuesday.

Nayar reckons the team’s think tank should not make any changes to the playing XI just for the sake of it. The KKR head coach said India should play Sanju Samson in a place where he can succeed.

Samson was dropped from the final XI after he returned with scores of 5, 0 and 1 in the last three T20I innings.

Abhishek Nayar said on Star Sports, “They’ve got 190 in two innings but that is batting first. They’ve struggled chasing because they’ve not assessed conditions and found the right tempo. Yet, you don’t want to press the panic button. Don’t make changes for the sake of it. If Samson has to come in, position him in a place where he can succeed.”

On the other hand, India’s vice-captain Tilak Varma was dismissed after scoring three runs off 11 balls in the last game. Nayar reckons Varma should be promoted in the batting order as he has a better record while batting at number three and four.

“When you have a really good batter like Tilak Varma, you have to send him up the order. His average at No.3 is outstanding and he has scored two hundreds in that position. He averages close to 40 even at No.4. He’s a proven batter at the top of the order, who can soak in the pressure and then attack towards the end. India are missing out on getting the correct batters at the correct time in the correct position,” said Aaron (via the aforementioned source).

The fourth T20I between England and India will be played at Bristol, County Ground on Thursday.
