After Abhishek Sharma’s storm engulfed the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Thursday, which shattered Afghanistan’s bowlers’ confidence, he sat near the pitch in a yoga pose and chanted, ‘Om Namah Shivay’.
Sharma was at peace after he took the hosts’ bowlers to the cleaners and revealed he has been focusing on meditation to get the best out of himself.
Yoga is often associated about staying calm but nothing calm about the left-hander’s knock as he scored 108 runs off just 34 balls, including nine fours and 11 sixes. The southpaw also reached his hundred off just 30 balls, becoming the fastest batter from a Test-playing nation to reach the personal milestone.
India posted 100 runs in the Powerplay overs, with Abhishek scoring 76 runs to do the lion’s share of the scoring.
Abhishek Sharma told the hosts broadcasters after the game, “This is something I have been doing for quite some time, six months to a year. I have focused a lot on meditation and manifestation because when you are playing cricket throughout the year, there are a lot of ups and downs as a cricketer.”
“So how do you keep your mind stable in that? I think meditation really helped me a lot, and I just wanted that if someone sees it, if any cricketer feels that it actually really helped me from the last six to eight months.”
“So that was the specific celebration for that, that this is something which is keeping me stable,” said Abhishek.
Abhishek scored 229 runs in three games of the series at an average of 76.33 and a blistering strike rate of 269.71. Thus, the left-hander was awarded Player of the Series.
Abhishek will be next seen in action in the Asian Games.
