Sunrisers Hyderabad’s experienced batter Aiden Markram feels Abhishek Sharma’s consistent performances in IPL 2024 will help him play for India. Sharma has been in sublime form in the ongoing season while opening the innings with Travis Head.
The left-hander scored a blistering knock of 75 runs off just 28 balls against Lucknow Super Giants in the previous match. The pugnacious southpaw has amassed 401 runs in 12 matches at an average of 36.45 and a blistering strike rate of 205.64, which is the best for the top-15 run-getters of the tournament.
“Abhi (Abhishek) has made massive strides this season. He was showing some really positive signs in the previous seasons and what he’s achieved so far this season puts him in good stead for hopefully representing India one day,” Markram said while talking to the PTI.
The former SRH captain added that Sharma has got a calm head on his shoulders, which has helped him reap rewards at the top level.
“He’s got a very calm and level head on his shoulders and he’ll take everything in his stride. But my fingers are certainly crossed for him to go to higher honours,” Markram added.
Meanwhile, the SRH opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head has taken the opposition bowlers to the cleaners. Head has mustered 533 runs in 11 matches at an average of 53.3 and a whirlwind strike rate of 201.89.
“You probably could say brothers of destruction. They have been smoking it and it has been great to watch from the sidelines. It has been fantastic for us as a team for them to get us off to the kind of starts that they have. Allow the rest of the batting unit to continue with that aggressive mode,” Markram said.
SRH will take on Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Thursday.
