New Zealand’s fast bowler Adam Milne has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a hamstring injury which he suffered in the SA20. He will be replaced in the squad by Kyle Jamieson.
Milne had scalped 11 wickets in eight matches of the ongoing SA20 at an average of 16.27 while playing for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson was in good form in the three-match ODI series against India. The lanky pacer has scalped six wickets in three games at an average of 28.17.
“We’re all gutted for Adam,” New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said. “He’d worked so hard to get himself ready for the tournament and was looking back to his best in his eight games for the Eastern Cape Sunrisers. It’s unfortunate timing for Adam and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Squads can be freely amended until January 31, after which replacements need ICC approval.
“It’s great that Kyle is already with us here in India,” Walter said. “He’s an integral member of our pace-bowling group and has hit the ground running on this tour. He’s a hard-worker with a good set of skills and experiences that will hold him good stead for the tournament.”
Jamieson also returned with figures of 2-54 in the opening T20I against India at Nagpur on Wednesday.
The second T20I between India and New Zealand will be played at Raipur on Friday.
