Ajinkya Rahane says Suryakumar Yadav is going to hold key in Asia Cup

India’s veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane believes captain Suryakumar Yadav is going to hold the key in the upcoming Asia Cup. Rahane noted that SKY didn’t have a great series against England but bounced back strongly in IPL 2025 for Mumbai Indians.

Yadav could only manage 28 runs in five T20Is against England at an average of 5.60 and a strike rate of 116.66 and thus failed to lead from the front.

However, Yadav scored 717 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2025 at an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.91 and thus played a key role in taking Mumbai Indians to the playoffs. 

Ajinkya Rahane said on his YouTube Channel, “Didn’t have a good series against England, but came back to form in IPL with five fifties and finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament with a healthy strike rate. We all know Surya is a dangerous batter. In this format, he has done really well. But it will be interesting to see how he goes about his batting, especially after the surgery.”

The Mumbai batter said SKY’s batting is going to be really important for India in the continental tournament.

“As a captain, he has been fantastic. He is a proactive captain, led the team really well in the past, but I feel, in this Asia Cup, his batting will be really important.”

SKY has led India in 22 T20I matches and the team has won 17 games under his leadership. The right-hander is known to hit the ground running and has the skills to score all around the ground.

India will begin their Asia Cup campaign against the UAE on 10th September.
