Former Indian batter Ambati Rayudu has predicted that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will score 200 runs in a T20 innings one day. The left-hander has impressed with his pyrotechnics and scored a fantastic knock of 97 runs off just 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator on Wednesday.
The young batter has already scored two IPL centuries in his short career, reaching one in 35 balls and the other in 36 balls. Sooryavanshi was just one boundary away from breaking Chris Gayle’s record of scoring the fastest IPL century off 30 balls but he was dismissed three runs short of his hundred.
In a recent conversation with former England batter Kevin Pietersen, Sooryavanshi said he wants to break Gayle’s record of highest individual score (175) in a T20 game and score 200.
Ambati Rayudu said on ESPN Cricinfo, “I think a 200 is around the corner. If he keeps going this way, we’ll see a 200 very soon. He has not premeditated a single ball except for one ball where he tried to reverse sweep in one of those games earlier. Other than that, he just seems to watch the ball and react to it. His talent is so good that he can react to any ball the way he has been reacting. He’s hitting everything for a six.”
On the other hand, former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody compared Sooryavanshi’s batting like playing a video game.
“It’s like playing one of these video games. That’s what it looks like. He’s got the controller and he is dominating the video game. The time that he has, the game is in slow motion for him.”
The former SRH head coach went on to compare Sooryavanshi’s batting rise with that of legendary Sir Don Bradman.
“Incredible is a strong enough word. We are witnessing something we haven’t seen in our lifetime in this format of the game. In other formats as well, we have seen some amazing things, but not to this extreme. The only thing I can take it back to is what Bradman was doing. He nearly averaged 100 in Test cricket and the drop off between the next best was around 60. That’s the separation we are talking about.”
RR will next take on GT in the second qualifier on Friday.
