Former Indian captain Anil Kumble praised Jasprit Bumrah for his T20 World Cup final heroics against New Zealand. Kumble said the Kiwi batters were not picking Bumrah in the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday. India registered a comprehensive 96-run win to win their third T20 World Cup title.
Bumrah returned with impressive figures of 4-15 in his quota of four overs against the Blackcaps. The ace pacer bowled 21 balls below 128 kmph and bamboozled the opposition’s batters with change of pace.
Bumrah accounted for Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, James Neesham, and Matt Henry and thus was awarded Player of the Match.
Anil Kumble said on ESPN Cricinfo, “It’s his home ground, so I am sure he understands the pitch. He bowled beautifully. He also has those variations on any surface, but he was foxing all the batters. They were not picking him and were too early into their shots. You saw those bowled dismissals of a couple of batters – even Rachin Ravindra the first ball. Outstanding effort.
On the other hand, former New Zealand opener Martin Guptill said it is difficult to pick Bumrah’s slower delivery and compared the ace pacer with Lasith Malinga.
“He’s so good with his skill set. The way he disguises that slower ball, it’s so hard to pick up as a batter. He’s started to become like Lasith Malinga at his prime. You need a wicket, you bring on Malinga, he gets you one straightaway. In the last decade, he’s definitely the best white-ball bowler in the world. His Test game has been top of the charts as well.”
Bumrah scalped 14 wickets in the tournament at an average of 12.43 and had a superb economy rate of 6.21.
