Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir doesn’t want the team management to push Suryakumar Yadav down in the batting order. Yadav had scored a brilliant knock of 68 runs off just 26 balls against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup and had helped the team in posting an above-par score of 192 runs on the board.
There is no doubt that SKY is one of India’s best batters based on his current form in the T20I format. However, he was demoted in the batting order in the high-octane clash against Pakistan. Ravindra Jadeja was promoted at the number four slot against the arch-rivals and thus SKY had batted at number five.
In fact, SKY had also played as an opener in the five-match T20I series against West Indies. It is well known that the 31-year-old from Mumbai can play at any position in the batting order.
Gambhir wants SKY to bat at the number three position on the merit of his good form ahead of Virat Kohli.
“Suryakumar Yadav. I say that Surya needs to bat at three. I think it is very very important. I think we need to do something differently. Use his form. Don’t push him down the order. Don’t push him at No.4. Give him more deliveries to play. He’s going to win you more games by batting at No.3 compared to batting No.4 or No.5.”
“Hopefully, the team management will listen. Virat has done reasonably well in the last game and the first game as well. But sometimes you have to look at the form and the quality at the moment,” said Gambhir while talking to Star Sports.
SKY has ticked the right boxes for India in the recent past and he is in form of his life. The right-hander has been performing consistently and had scored a magnum opus knock of 117 runs off just 55 balls against England in the third T20I but his efforts had gone in vain.
Furthermore, he had scored a fine knock of 76 runs off just 43 balls against West Indies in the third T20I of the series.
Suryakumar Yadav is going to hold the key in the T20 World Cup and he is going to play a crucial role. Yadav has the skills of hitting the ground running and he can score all around the ground.
