Asia Cup 2022: I do expect him to come back to form quickly – Saba Karim on KL Rahul

Former Indian selector Saba Karim expects KL Rahul to get back form in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. Rahul made a return to International cricket in the recently concluded series against Zimbabwe. The right-hander scored 31 runs in two innings and could not get going against a depleted Zimbabwean team.

Meanwhile, Rahul is expected to open the innings with captain Rohit Sharma in the Asia Cup 2022 and he is going to hold the key at the top of the order for the Indian team.

In fact, Rahul was making a return to International cricket after six months but he could not hit the ground running. The series against Zimbabwe was a perfect opportunity for KL Rahul to spend some game time in the middle.

On the other hand, Rahul scored 616 runs in 15 matches for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 and played a key role in taking the team to the playoff stages. Before the series against Zimbabwe, India had played in the series against the West Indies in February.

Saba Karim said on the Sports 18 show, ‘Sport over the Top’, “I would not be unduly worried about KL Rahul’s form as of now. He would have loved to get some more runs under his belt, but given his pedigree, I do expect him to come back to form quickly.”

“He was trying to ease himself in. It was such a tame or unfortunate dismissal the way he got out in the last outing, inside edge onto the wickets. Maybe three or four center-wicket sessions in Dubai before the Asia Cup starts will really help him to get back into his prime form.”

On the other hand, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris shared the same views as Saba Karim as he said he won’t be worried about Rahul’s form.

Styris said, “I wouldn’t be worried either. I would be worried if he was only facing five or ten balls in each innings but the last one in particular, 46 deliveries I think it was, if that’s the case it means that time in the middle is coming and that would mean he will become more and more fluent.”

India will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on 28th August.
