Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma believes there is a slight concern as his ward has played a few T20Is in ongoing season. Kohli has played only four T20Is for India in 2022 and was rested for the series against West Indies and Zimbabwe.
The talisman had played in three T20Is against England but he could not get a big score in the series despite getting off to starts as he managed only 12 runs in two innings. Kohli will look to be at his best in the Asia Cup as he is going to hold the key for the Rohit Sharma-led team.
In fact, Kohli hasn’t been in the best of forms in the recent past and he will need to turn the tables before the all-important T20I showpiece.
Rajkumar Sharma said while talking to India Sports News, “There is a slight concern that he has not played too many T20 matches. But I am not at all worried because he is preparing very well. He is extremely positive and is coming back refreshed. So it is not a matter of too much concern.”
“He is a big player, he knows how he has to score runs, and at which strike rate he has to bat. The Indian team’s template has definitely changed, but everyone has seen Virat’s adaptability, he adapts according to the team’s requirements and will do so going forward as well.”
Sharma added that we all know Virat Kohli’s conversion rate is very good and he is hopeful the right-hander will return to his best in the Asia Cup.
“He is a thinking and intelligent cricketer. We all know that his conversion used to be very good but, unfortunately, lately he has either got an unplayable ball while batting well or there is a slight lapse of concentration and his first mistake becomes his last.”
In fact, it has been noticed that Kohli isn’t getting the rub of the green on his side in the recent past. Sharma added Kohli will look to rectify his mistakes in the upcoming matches.
“He is a player who doesn’t get too many chances. I believe he knows where he is committing mistakes and how to rectify them. Everyone knows no one used to convert their starts better than him but that has not happened lately, so he knows very well what his role is and how he needs to solve this problem.”
Kohli will return to the Indian team in the Asia Cup as India will begin their campaign against Pakistan on 28th August in Dubai.
