Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has showered praise on Jasprit Bumrah, stating he is a mighty bowler. Bumrah has made a fantastic comeback to ODI cricket after recovering from his back injury. The gun fast bowler returned with figures of 1-18 in the five overs he bowled against arch-rivals Pakistan at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Monday.
The ace pacer was able to get the early wicket of Imam-ul-Haq. Bumrah also continued his good show against Sri Lanka, returning with 2-30 in the seven overs he bowled. The right-arm pacer accounted for Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, bamboozling the latter with a slower ball.
Thus, Bumrah has scalped three wickets in two matches of the ongoing Asia Cup and he will continue the good show.
“Bumrah started it. He picked up two wickets. This is why we say Jassi jaisa koi nahin. He is a mighty bowler. It seemed like this pitch had slightly less help (for the seamers) compared to the Pakistan game because this pitch was extremely dry,” said Chopra on his YouTube Channel.
Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were able to break the back of Sri Lanka’s top-order with three early wickets.
“In such a case, for him to take two wickets at the start and Mohammed Siraj to pick up a wicket, you had taken three wickets and said tata bye-bye to the top three. If you have bid goodbye to Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis, you have already broken the opposing team’s back slightly,” Chopra added.
Bumrah has been right on the money and he is going to hold the key for India in the upcoming ODI World Cup. The ace pacer has got the ball to swing both ways in the initial phase of the innings.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav returned with 4-43 as Sri Lanka was skittled out for 172 runs. India will take on Bangladesh on Friday whereas they will face either Pakistan or Sri Lanka in the summit clash of the continental tournament at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday.
