Former Sri Lankan captain Marvan Attapatu feels Rohit Sharma didn’t have the rub of the green on his side after he was dismissed against Sri Lanka in the Super Fours stage match at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Tuesday.
Rohit was looking good for a big score after scoring his 51st ODI fifty and he was on 53 when he got a grubber from Dinuth Wellalage. The Indian skipper could not make the adjustment against an almost unplayable delivery and was bowled by the left-arm orthodox spinner.
In fact, Rohit had also scored a fine knock of 56 runs against Pakistan but could not convert it into a big score and the same happened against Sri Lanka.
“I am lost for words. I feel for him, feel very sorry for him. Any batsman around the world would have played the shot the same way,” said Marvan Attapatu on Star Sports.
On the other hand, Sanjay Manjrekar gave credit to Dunith Wellalage for bowling the right length to bamboozle the Indian opener.
“Huge fan of the length. The young man has bowled a length where Rohit Sharma was not ready to make a commitment – neither on the front foot, neither on the backfoot, and that’s when you want the ball to come easily off the pitch,” he added.
“Unfortunately for him, the ball kept low but you have got to credit the bowler than find faults with the batter,” Manjrekar said on Rohit Sharma’s dismissal.
Meanwhile, India registered a convincing win of 41 runs in the end but they had to toil hard for it. India was skittled out for 213 runs after electing to bat first but they were able to bundle Sri Lanka out for 172.
India will take on either Pakistan or Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup on Sunday at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
