The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the India Squad for the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup on Wednesday. Harmanpreet Kaur has been appointed the captain to lead the side in the tournament that starts on October 1 and will go on until October 15 in Bangladesh.
India will play their first match of the tournament against Sri Lanka on October 1. They haven’t made any major changes to the squad that played against England earlier this month. Simran Bahadur and wicket-keeper Taniya Bhatia have been added as the standby players. Both of them were part of the squad that played in the T20I series against England.
Smriti Mandhana, who has been seen in excellent form in the T20Is and ODIs against England, has been appointed as Harmanpreet Kaur’s deputy for this Asia Cup. Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Sabbineni Meghana and Dayalan Hemalatha are the other pure batters selected in the squad whereas Richa Ghosh is the only wicket-keeper.
Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar are the three all-rounders and all of them are expected to feature regularly in the first XI. Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Radha Yadav are two other spinners in the squad along with Rana. As far as the pace department goes, Renuka Singh and Meghna Singh are two other frontline options along with Vastrakar.
