Speculation has been rife regarding the absence of Indian cricket stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the Duleep Trophy 2024, with fans and pundits alike offering various theories on their exclusion.

None of their top players play domestic cricket. We must treat our players respectfully and not treat them like servants.”
The decision to rest Rohit and Kohli comes as the two players approach the latter stages of their illustrious careers. Both have been pivotal figures for the Indian national team and are expected to play key roles in upcoming home and away series. The BCCI is keen to ensure that they remain fit and available for these high-stakes matches, and as such, has opted to exempt them from the Duleep Trophy to minimize the risk of injury.

Both players, who lost their central contracts earlier this year due to a perceived lack of commitment to domestic cricket, will be looking to prove themselves in the upcoming tournament.
Shreyas Iyer, who was part of the Indian squad for the recent ODI series in Sri Lanka, will lead Team D in the Duleep Trophy 2024.
