BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has revealed that chief selector Ajit Agarkar could not attend the review meeting in Mumbai on Thursday as he was out of town. Saikia said the meeting was scheduled on a very short notice and Agarkar also could not join the meeting online because of signal challenges.

Saikia attended the meeting along with India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill. Head coach Gautam Gambhir and CoE head VVS Laxman were also present in the meeting.

Saikia said via RevSportz, “He was out of station. He could not be a part of the meeting because this meeting was called at very short notice, and our head of the selection committee, Ajit, was not in town, so he could not join it. He was in such an area that he could not join online also, in spite of our best efforts.”

Saikia revealed no discussion were done on Ajit Agarkar’s tenure and the agenda was to review the performance of the team on the UK and Sri Lanka tour. Further, the plans for the upcoming ODI World Cup were discussed.

“There was no such discussion in today’s meeting. There was no discussion on the selection committee. Our whole focus was performance in England and Ireland, as well as the recent Test series in Sri Lanka and what we are going to do in the upcoming series, plus the World Cup, which is our ultimate goal.”

India suffered six T20I losses on the UK tour, including two against Ireland and four against England. Recently, Shubman Gill’s team won the opening Test against Sri Lanka but the second game ended in a draw.

India will next take on Afghanisan in a three-match T20I series, starting September 13.
