Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar believes Bhuvneshwar Kumar is going to be a certainty in the T20 World Cup squad. Kumar has been performing consistently for India in the T20I format and he has made a strong case for his selection.
In fact, it is worth mentioning that six months ago, Kumar’s selection was doubtful but he has proved his mettle to make a place of himself. The swing fast bowler has all the experience under his belt and he can make the most of it in crunch situations of the game.
Earlier, many cricket experts thought that one player between Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar will be selected for the T20 World Cup as they are similar type of bowlers. However, one believes that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is leading the cat-and-mouse race at the moment.
Kumar scalped two wickets in the third T20I against the West Indies at St. Kitts on Tuesday and conceded 35 runs in his quota of four overs. The veteran has the skills to swing the ball both ways in the PowerPlay overs and he can also bowl accurately in the death overs.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar recently gave an interview, and he is at his peak at the moment. Eighteen months back, we thought he may not have an international career. But he has bounced back superbly and is a certainty to make the T20 world cup squad,” Sanjay Manjrekar told Sports18’s daily sports news show ‘Sports Over The Top’
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar clearly has said like it is with a lot of players when you’re going through a rut, the best way to come out of the rut is by playing. So hopefully that will happen soon,” he added.
Kumar has played 71 T20I matches for India in which he has scalped 73 wickets at an average of 23.15. Most importantly, he has an impressive economy rate of 6.93, which is superb as he bowls the difficult overs in the Powerplay and also in the fag end of the innings.
The 32-year-old from Meerut will look to continue the good show for India and he is going to be vital cog in India’s wheel for the T20 World Cup along with Jasprit Bumrah.
