It’s a famous saying that batsmen win you the games whereas bowlers win you the tournament. Former Indian opener and now a commentator Aakash Chopra reckons India’s gun fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar need to do well for the team if they are to win the T20 World Cup.
Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar have been India’s crucial fast bowlers in the limited-overs format but the latter hasn’t played a lot of international cricket in the recent past. However, Bhuvneshwar made a roaring comeback after injury in the T20I series as he scalped four wickets.
Bhuvneshwar bowled at his best in the final deciding T20 against England on Saturday as he scalped two wickets for 15 runs in his four-overs quota in the high scoring match. Consequently, he was also awarded the Player of the Match.
On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah has done a fine job for the team. However, Bumrah’s recent form could be a concern for the team. But Bumrah has been a champion bowler in the shortest format of the game. Thus, Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar can deliver the goods in the powerplay as well as the death overs.
“One hundred percent. If India has to win the 2021 World Cup, it is necessary for Bumrah and Bhuvi to do well. Bumrah is evergreen, he did not have any injury issue. He has been bowling well and his workload is being managed,” said Chopra while talking to Star Sports.
“We were waiting eagerly when Bhuvi will come, the ball will swing and he will take the wickets. He might have taken only four wickets in the series, today he took two wickets but his bowling was sensational and we can say that Bhuvi is back,” added Chopra.
Apart from Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar, India has fine fast bowlers like T Natarajan, who can bowl accurately at the fag end of the innings. Shardul Thakur has also impressed with his variations whereas Deepak Chahar can get the bowl to swing in the powerplay overs. Furthermore, Navdeep Saini can trouble the batsmen with express pace whereas Mohammed Shami will also add value with his experience.
Ergo, India has a potent bench strength and they will one of the favourites for the T20 World Cup. India will now face England in a three-match ODI series at Pune from March 23.
