Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has backed the veteran duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to come good in the upcoming matches. Rohit scored 91 runs in three Test matches against the Kiwis at an average of 15.17 whereas Virat Kohli could only score 93 runs in three Test matches at an average of 15.50.
Furthermore, Rohit could only manage 42 runs in two Test matches at an average of 10.50 against Bangladesh, Kohli scored 99 runs in the same series at an average of 33. Thus, the veteran duo is under the pump for their ordinary performance in the recent past.
Ali urged the Indian fans not to forget the pair’s consistent performances in the past.
Basit Ali said on his YouTube Channel, “Just two or three months ago there was a felicitation ceremony on this same ground in Mumbai. Why didn’t you say at that time that now they should retire from all three formats? Cancer cannot be treated with Disprin, you need chemotherapy for that. You people make them zero on a day, but you forget the performances they have given in the past. You people were winning. Ask me, our team had been losing to America, Ireland, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.”
“You lost 3-0, that’s why you people are angry. Please use a little bit of your mind. This is the same Rohit Sharma who scored runs against England in the 2023 ODI World Cup and in the Test series. This is the same Virat Kohli who scored 186 in Ahmedabad. Now when he is not getting runs, you guys are speaking. He has seen such a time before as well.”
On the other hand, Ali feels former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam hasn’t scored consistent runs despite playing on good pitches whereas Virat Kohli had to play on tough pitches.
“Babar Azam got good pitches, Virat Kohli didn’t. He had to play on turning tracks. Who is instructing to make such pitches?”
Rohit and Virat will now look to find their A-game on the upcoming tour of Australia. The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
