Indian batsman KL Rahul has said he cannot wait to get out there back in blue and represent the national team. Rahul revealed that he was nearing full fitness but suffering from Covid-19 has pushed him back. The flamboyant batter had missed the T20I series against South Africa due to groin injury after he was named as the captain.
Following that, Rahul was also ruled out of the England tour and underwent a Sport hernia surgery in Germany. Rahul had last played competitive cricket in the IPL when he led Lucknow Super Giants to the playoff stages. The stylish batter had scored 616 runs in 15 matches at an average of 51.33 and a strike rate of 135.38 and had finished as the second-highest run-getter in the tournament.
After being not included for the Zimbabwe ODIs, Rahul took to twitter to clarify a few things about his fitness and health.
“I wanted to clarify a couple of things about my health and fitness. My surgery in June was successful, and I had begun training with the hope of returning to national duty for the team’s tour of West Indies.”
The elegant stroke-maker added: “Unfortunately, as I was nearing a return to full fitness, I tested positive for COVID-19. This naturally pushed things back by a couple of weeks, but I aim to recover as quickly as possible and be available for selection as soon as I can. To represent the national team is the highest honour, and I cannot wait to get out there back in blue.”
Meanwhile, KL Rahul is going to play a key role in India’s T20 World Cup campaign. He is a vital cog in India’s wheel and he is expected to open the innings with captain Rohit Sharma.
The right-hander has been a consistent performer, especially in the shortest format of the game. The 30-year-old from Karnataka has scored 1831 runs in 56 T20Is at an average of 40.91 and a strike rate of 142.49.
Rahul is expected to be part of the Asia Cup squad and the multi-team tournament will begin from August 27.
