Online cricket betting in India has come a long way in the last decade or two. People have started betting on various online sites on the sports they follow with great passion. We take a look at some betting strategies that you must keep in mind before putting you money on a particular team or player.
Odds – Betting is all about chances. What are the chances of a particular team winning or losing? Do your homework. Consider head to head battle, the conditions in which the teams are playing and who are the players or which team is in better form. It all matters in the end result of the match and hence it gives you an idea of ‘what are the odds’.
At the same time, it is not to say that you must always bet on a player or team in form. It is well known that the winning betting price can multiply if the underdog goes on to win the final competition. However, the odds of it happening are slim and one must back the underdog when they observe some unusual pattern before the match. That pattern could be poor form of the favourite team, home conditions for the underdog and good form for the minnow.
Top batsman strategy
It is imperative to first understand in which format of the game are you betting. Suppose you are betting in Test matches, then it would be prudent to put your money on players like Steven Smith, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Joe Root. These all batters are consistent and have higher odds of scoring more.
If you are betting for an ODI game, it would be sensible to put your bets on Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, David Warner, Jos Buttler, Quinton de Kock. Try to pick a top-order who has higher chances of scoring big as they will face more balls.
If you are betting in a T20 match, pick batters like Chris Gayle, Chris Lynn, Kieron Pollard, AB de Villiers. Again crucial to consider top order batsmen as there are only 120 balls.
Top bowler strategy
Again it is imperative to select according to format. Pick the bowlers who are good at bowling consistent line and length in Test matches like James Anderson, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mohammed Shami.
However, you need to have a completely different strategy for limited overs formats. Pick the bowlers who can swing or turn the ball in any conditions. So select bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav.
It is once again important to keep in mind the conditions. If the matches are played in Australia, England, South Africa, back fast bowlers as the conditions would suit them, whereas pick spinners if the matches are hosted in sub-continent conditions as the pitches are more conducive for spinners.
It is crucial to consider all the factors such as conditions such as pitch or weather, recent form of the player or the team, format of the game. You should back yourself and use your head instead of your heart.
